In August of 2008 Paula & John Steptoe, purchased a vacation home in the Sabal Cove section of Grand Bay, Longboat Key. The home was owned by Arizona Cardinals Pro Football quarterback Curt Warner who probably wished he had held on to the property because six months later he was playing in the Super Bowl at Raymond James in Tampa.
The Steptoe's hired Ms. Susan Dabney, a designer with Robb & Stuckey to assist with remodeling ideas, flooring, hardware finishes, color selections and furnishings.
Denny Yoder, owner of Yoder Homes and Remodeling was contracted to do the extensive interior and exterior modifications.
One of the more complicated aspects to the desired changes, involved the removal of a bearing wall that supported the second floor and roof in order to expand the kitchen area. Additional modifications included adding a finished floor to the garage along with a mini-split system to condition the air so it can be utilized as a recreation area for their two teenage sons.
The half wall surrounding the stairway was removed in order open up the stairwell by add railing, three bathrooms were completely redone, cove ceilings and moldings were added along with all the flooring in the home.
Once the project was started, the Steptoe's were so happy with the progress they expanded the scope to include the rear paver deck, pool surface and rear landscaping.
The Steptoe's also hired Mark van den Broek with Smarthouse Integration to install a complete automation system with flat screen tv's in every room, speaker's and touch pad controllers.
The project went very smoothly considering the Steptoe's main home is located in England and had limited opportunity to view the progress on site. Instead they made selections via the internet and viewed digital pictures for updates.
